Graveside services for Betty Jo (Burleson) Young, age 88 years, 6 months and 29 days, a Coalgate resident, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Coalgate Cemetery, in Coalgate, with Pastor David Unsell officiating.
Interment will be in Coalgate Cemetery, at Coalgate.
Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Coalgate.
Young passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020, at Coalgate.
She was born on October 26, 1931, to Lem Arvard and Martha Frances (Walker) Burleson, at Coalgate.
Young attended Bethel and Coalgate Schools.
She married Arthur “Dushie” Young, on January 27, 1947, in Ada. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2001.
Young was a bus driver, for 38 years, for Coalgate Public Schools. She was the first female bus driver in the state of Oklahoma. Betty also drove her husband’s dump truck from time to time.
She was a devoted Pentecostal Christian. Young enjoyed cooking, canning and watching her grandchildren. She loved arrowhead hunting and fishing, but her greatest treasure was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Joe Young and wife, Carolyn, of Atoka; June Oliphant of Wetumka; Sally Wiggins of Coalgate; Sherry Loudermilk and husband, Chuck, of Coalgate; Donna Robson of Coalgate; Tommie Armstrong and husband, Brian, of Eagletown; 21 grandchildren, Timothy Young and wife, Paula, of Poteau; Tanda Smith and husband, Jason, of Coalgate; Brandon Young and wife, Britton, of Sicily, Italy; Angela Nix of Oklahoma City; Jason Nix of Holdenville; Leesa Roscoe and husband, Chris, of Choctaw; Amy Nix of Wetumka; Kevin Wiggins and wife, Brook, of Blue Ridge, Texas; Krissie Haney and husband, Kevin, of Coalgate; Kody Wiggins and wife, Sarah, of Coalgate; Shera Loudermilk and Matt Grant, both of Coalgate; Sierra Loudermilk and Damon Krebs of Tupelo; Shay Loudermilk of Calvin; Leslie Battles and husband, Dustin, of Coalgate; Lori Robson and Jerry Davis of Coalgate; Tommy Robson and wife, Katie, of Coalgate; TyAnna Adams and husband, Dustin, of Coalgate; Katy Farley and Derek Jamison of Eagletown; Trapper Farley and Gunner Farley, both of Eagletown; Caleb Armstrong of Moyers; 43 Great grandchildren with 2 on the way; sisters, Mary Eddings of Coalgate; Martha Graham and husband, George, of Noble; brother-in-law, Willie Osborne of Ada; along with many nieces, nephews and others relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Arthur “Dushie” Young; parents, Lem Arvard and Martha Frances (Walker) Burleson; son-in-laws, David Wiggins, Randy Robson and James Oliphant.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Coalgate.
