Funeral services for Michael Arthur Settlemires, age 59 years, 5 months and 15 days, a longtime Atoka resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, at High Hill Baptist Church, in Tushka, with the Reverend Steve Henry officiating.
Interment was in High Hill Cemetery, at Tushka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Settlemires passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Atoka.
He was born on Sunday, December 4, 1960, to Robert Lee and Evelyn (Wills) Settlemires, at Loma Linda, California.
Settlemires attended Harmony, Lane and Stringtown Grade Schools and graduated from Atoka High School.
He married Patricia Ann (Dillard) on Friday, August 3, 1979, at Atoka. They celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Settlemires worked at Walmart, a few years; Atoka Trailers and Albert Furr Motors. He worked 37 years for Donnie’s Body Shop, as a Paint and Body Technician.
He was a member of High Hill Baptist Church. Settlemires loved taking his grandchildren hunting. No matter if all they killed was time. Many hours were spent with his metal detector, looking for treasures. He took pride in his baby chicks he hatched, while his cows and calves were as fat as ticks. Settlemires enjoyed watching tractor pulls and a good home cooked meal. No matter how busy he was, he always attended every activity he could for his grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Settlemires of the home, in Atoka; children, Amanda Thompson and husband, Jeff, of Stringtown; Jeremy Settlemires and wife, Sabrina, of Tushka; grandchildren, Jacob Thompson, Blake Thompson, Beau Thompson, Annie Thompson, Justice Settlemires and Briar Settlemires; sisters, Sharon Lang and husband, Bill, of Atoka; Dorothy Redden and husband, Kim, of Kenefic; Trudy Smith and husband, Steve, of Mabank, Texas; brother, Bobby Settlemires and wife, Gail, of Tushka; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Dillard of Tushka; special aunt, Naomi “Aunt Nee” York; special uncle, Lawrence “Uncle Rat” Bowen; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert and Evelyn (Wills) Settlemires; father-in-law, Houston Dillard.
Pallbearers were Jerry Settlemire, J.B. Settlemire, Shane Daniel, Donnie Allen, Brian Dillard and Dorman Nuttall.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Daniel, Johnny Walton, Randy Orr, Ed Reed, Donnie Thompson, Robert Brown, Johnny Burleson, Toby Settlemire and Billy Templin.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
