Atoka County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Anderson received a report from Cara Caves, 50, of Atoka, who claimed her debit card had been stolen.
Caves advised Deputy Anderson that the suspect, Ashley Nicole Franklin (Gaylor), 27, of Atoka, had visited her home to see a minor child that was placed in Caves’ custody by the Department of Human Services (DHS).
While in the home, Franklin had used the restroom, passing through a bedroom where Caves’ purse containing the debit card was located.
The next morning, Caves noticed the card missing and began searching for it. Later the same day, she received an email from the Shamrock bank notifying her about suspicious activity. Caves had her card cancelled.
The total amount used from the debit card was $294.26 in various locations across Atoka, Coleman, Durant, and Wapanucka.
Security footage at the Sunshine Valero in Atoka was used to identify Franklin using the card.
Franklin is charged with larceny from the house (felony), pattern of criminal offenses (felony), and three misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of credit card.
