Funeral services for IO Yates, age 59 years, a lifelong Atoka resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020, at Church of The Rock, in Lane, with Raymond Humphrey officiating.
Services were under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service and Serenity Monuments, in Antlers.
Yates passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, in Dallas, Texas.
He was born on September 16, 1960, to O’Neal and Maybell (Rose) Yates, at Atoka.
Yates enjoyed hanging out with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, riding ATVs, being with friends, reading the Bible and trucking. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his special friend, Arlene Jacobs; children, Chandra and Willie Alford of Caney; Justin and Jennifer Yates of Caney; Samantha Hearrell of Boswell; brothers, Dicky Yates and wife, Shirlene, of Atoka; Tim Yates of Lake Worth Beach, Florida and Dewight Lathan of Hugo; sister: Nedra Sossaman and husband, Bobby, of Georgetown, Texas; sister-in-law, Brenda Lathan of Copperas Cove, Texas; grandchildren, Austin Yates, Cameron Yates, Ethan Yates, Payton Smith, Tanner Smith, Kamry Westmoreland, Ryder Westmoreland and Jase Stiles; along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, O’Neal and Maybell Yates; brother, Chester Joseph Lathan; and grandson, Chance Yates.
Pallbearers were Melvin Jacobs, Jimmy McPherson, Patrick Pierce, Justin John, Billy (Buck) Honeycutt, Edmond Jacobs and David Wilson.
