Funeral services for Howard Smith, age 87 years, 11 months and 2 days, a longtime Atoka resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, in Atoka, with David Woods officiating.
Interment was in Farris Cemetery, at Farris.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Smith passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at McAlester.
He was born on Tuesday, July 12, 1932, to Clifford and Jessie (Clark) Smith, at Pine Springs.
Smith attended Pine Springs School and then went on to attend Murray State College.
He proudly served his country in the Army, during the Korean Conflict.
Smith married Jeri (Collins) on Monday, June 12, 1978, at Atoka. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before his passing.
He was a bus driver for 17 years and he was also a ranch hand.
Smith was a member of the Farris Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, working cattle, spending time with kids and grandkids. He smiled everytime whenever his family was around, and visiting with anyone that would spend time with him.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri Smith of the home, in Atoka; sons, Billy Joe Woods of Missoula, Montana; David Lee Woods and wife, Joy, of Marlow; Larry Howard Smith of Farris; Larry “Little Larry” Smith and wife, Shelli, of Atoka; daughter, Victoria Shanks and husband, James, of Farris; grandchildren, Little Billy, Jannetta, David, Jr., Jody, Wade, Kevin, Dalton, Falon, Roxanne, Brianna, Shelby, Kaitlin and Kayla; sisters-in-law, Marcia Smith of Farris; Mary Smith of Plano, Texas; and Laura Smith of Farris; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clifford and Jessie (Clark) Smith; brothers, Troy, Roy, Wamon, HB and Bryan.
Pallbearers were Chester Hall, James Griffin, Lionel Winters, Ronny Butler, Stacey Butler and Brian Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were George Fellabaum, Wendall Wood and Johnny Rector.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
