Funeral services for Russell Ray Lane, age 85 years, 4 months and 21 days, a lifelong Atoka resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Victory Life Church, in Atoka, with Brother Seth Swindall, Brother John Matey officiating and the Reverend “Baby” Paul Butler officiating at the graveside.
Interment was in New Zion Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Lane passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in Sherman, Texas.
He was born on Saturday, February 23, 1935, to “Big” John William and Florence Magdalene (Kampplain) Lane, at Stringtown.
Lane attended school at Harmony, East Teleco, Miller, and then Atoka High School.
He married Lily Janice (Fomby) on Saturday, June 6, 1959, at Lewisville, Texas. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing.
Lane was a rancher and worked at a dairy farm. He was also a carpenter and builder, and worked for McAlester Army Ammunition Depot.
He was a longtime member and deacon at Lewisville Bible Church, Harmony Baptist Church and was an early member and elder at Dayspring Church. Lane served as a board member and treasurer of the school board at Harmony School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, whittling, carving, loved carving little boots and keychains, and mostly spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lily Janice Lane of the home, in Atoka; children, Teena Knight and husband, Tim, of Sherman, Texas; Brett Lane and wife, Tamara, of Durant; Matt Lane and wife, Carol, of Atoka; special child, Sheila Roberson and husband, David, of Tupelo; son-in-law, Dr. Bob Darst; grandchildren, Bobby Darst, Jr., Patty Sparks, Shanna Thompson, Teisa Lane, Whitney Jamet, Jennifer Hinojosa, Cassandra Little, Jake Knight, T.J. Knight, Raynee Eaves and Kendall Lane; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Butler of Muskogee; along with nieces, nephews, in laws, other relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Florence Magdalene (Kampplain) Lane; daughter, Patricia Ann Darst; granddaughter, Jennifer Lane Trueblood; great-granddaughter, Ruby Cheyenne Sharp; sisters, Lucille Sides, Donna Smith, Kay Johnson, Nell and Zell Lane; brothers, Norris Lane, Tommy Lane and John Lane.
Pallbearers were Dean Jackson, Danny Cochran, Jimmy Ridgeway, Mike Granger, Lional Winters, and Randy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Dale Nanney, Ed McCurry, W. K. Duke, Steve Swindall, Ronnie Harper, Roger Holley, Lester Moore, Johnny Morris, Tommy Evans, Larry Compton, Donnie Allen, Bob Wyrick and Dr. Bob Darst.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, July 17, 2020, at Victory Life Church, in Atoka.
