On Monday, July 6, 2020, Atoka Police Officer Justin Johnson was on patrol when he observed a blue 1996 Toyota Corolla parked on the shoulder at North Hills Road.
As the officer approached the vehicle the driver sped away. Traveling north on Highway 69/75, Officer Johnson radared the Corolla that was traveling 90 miles per hour, in a 70 mile per hour zone.
The driver stopped near the intersection of Vinita Allen Road and Highway 69.
Officer Johnson made contact with the driver who was identified as Cody Jo Scott, 28, of Coalgate. Scott provided his driver’s license, but not insurance verification.
While speaking, Officer Johnson noticed the strong smell of alcohol and an unopened can of Busch light beer in the floorboard.Scott admitted to drinking, “Yes, I had about five or six beers.”
Scott failed the three Standardized Field Sobriety Test, and refused to take a Preliminary Breath Test. He refused to take the State’s test as well.
Scott was transported to the Atoka County Jail and booked for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Charges were filed against Scott on Monday, July 6, 2020. He is charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (misdemeanor).
