Atoka County 4-H member, Dakota Mobbs has not let the Covid Virus stop her from learning, experimenting and having fun in 4-H.
She is getting ready to prepare Restaurant-Style Salsa for a family meal for the Food, Fun, 4-H program.
The program began in May and will end in August. Each month she receives a packet from the state 4-H office in Stillwater.
The packet includes a 4-H apron, items to build a 3-ring Food, Fun, 4-H recipe binder, recipes for a main dish, side and dessert as well as table topics, educational information and family physical activity as well as a shipment of kitchen tools to be used with the set of recipes.
The Food, Fun, 4-H is a new program. It is an at home cooking program, that unites families in the kitchen and at the dinner table. The goal of the program is to get young people in the kitchen and preparing home-cooked meals, trying new foods, encouraging family time, developing communication skills and having fun.
It was designed for all 4-H members eight years and up. The project is funded through a Walmart Healthy Habits grant and is available at no charge.
“This is one of the best programs the state 4-H office has provided in a long time,” says Barbara Elkins, Atoka County 4-H Educator.
“I hope it will continue next summer. It was been especially helpful this summer because we were unable to have camps and workshops due to the prevention of the virus.”
Dakota is a member of the Harmony 4-H program and is the daughter of Fillip and Tabatha Mobbs of Atoka. Dakota is a very active 4-H member in several different projects.
