While on routine patrol, Atoka Police Sergeant Jimmy Taylor observed a white 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser turn west onto North City Lake Road.
The driver continued on City Lake Road, down a private drive that leads to the City of Atoka firing range gate. Sergeant Taylor activated his emergency lights due to the City of Atoka Firing Range being closed to the public.
Sergeant Taylor made contact with the driver, Blade Allen Horton, 19, of Coalgate. Horton had red blood shot eyes and slurred speech. The odor of alcohol was coming from inside the vehicle.
When asked how many beers he had consumed Horton answered “four or five.”
A Standardized Field Sobriety Test was conducted with several clues pointing to Horton being intoxicated.
During a search of Horton’s vehicle eight cans of Michelob Ultra beer was located.
He was transferred to the Atoka County Jail for driving while under the influence and minor in possession of alcohol.
Horton is charged with driving under the influence by a person under 21 (misdemeanor).
