Friday, July 31, 2020 Atoka Police Officer Taylor Wood was dispatched to the Town and County Market due to a report of shoplifting.
Officer Wood made contact with the store manager while the suspect, Hazel R. Smith, 45, of Atoka, stood near the register on the phone.
The manager told the officer the items Smith had taken were, “All in her bag out front.”
Smith claimed the items were all paid for, but did not produce a receipt. She attempted to walk away from the officer when he advised her she was being detained.
She sat on the ground saying, “No, leave me alone. Don’t touch me.”
Smith did stand and was placed under arrest for petit larceny, resisting arrest, and obstruction.
The items totalling $50.26 were returned to Town and County. Smith was taken to the Atoka County Jail for booking.
She is charged with larceny of merchandise from retailer (misdemeanor), and resisting an officer (misdemeanor).
