A two vehicle accident occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Atoka Police Officer Chase Franklin investigated the cause of the accident.
Work crews had the right lane of Redbud Lane blocked off with traffic cones while maintenance was conducted on the traffic light.
Mohammed Hisham Alhashimi, 39, of Dallas, Texas, began to turn right at the traffic signal to go southbound on Highway 69 in a white 2018 Freight Liner Semi. Alhashimi made a wide right turn to avoid hitting the work crew.
Cynthia Haiakanubbi, 51, of Durant tried to undercut Alhashimi with a narrow right turn in her white 2008 GMC Sierra. She was struck by the Freight Liner as Alhashimi was completing his turn.
Haiakanubbi stated Alhashimi had his left turn signal on while he told officers his right turn signal was activated.
Both vehicles received damage but were still functional.
