Monday, August 17, 2020, Atoka Police Officer Taylor Wood observed a black 2019 Nissan Versa traveling north on Highway 69 at a high rate of speed.
The driver, Ryan Tyler Potts, 30, of Kansas City, Missouri, was traveling 69 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour area.
Potts could not locate his driver’s license, but provided his information to Officer Wood. He was issued a speeding ticket, and asked if he had anything illegal in his vehicle.
On the passenger side floor board, Potts retrieved an opened bottle of Espolon Tequila. After exiting the vehicle he informed Officer Wood there was a firearm in a bag.
Upon a search of the vehicle, Officer Wood located the Glock 29 Gen 4 10mm pistol, and a Ziploc bag of a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. Potts stated he also had some marijuana in his right sock.
Potts was transported to the Atoka County Jail for possession of marijuana, unlawful carry of a firearm, transporting open container of liquor, and speeding 16-20 over the speed limit.
