Saturday, August 22, 2020, Johnston County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call about an intoxicated male yelling at a female in the parking lot of the Wapy Express convenience store in Wapanucka.
While en route, Deputies were notified that the suspect, identified as Marcus Lee Nowlin, 34, of Atoka, was now armed with a tire iron.
Nowlin had entered the store, locking the doors, and refusing to let customers leave. Two customers, trapped inside, contacted their spouses for help.
When men arrived to help they could not enter the store due to it being locked. As Nowlin moved away from the door one of the patrons was able to unlock the door.
Nowlin threw the tire iron at the men, and a few moments later Johnston County Deputies arrived to take Nowlin into custody.
He was transported to the Johnston County Jail for five counts of kidnapping, public intoxication, threatening acts of violence, and breach of peace.
