Thursday, August 13, 2020, Atoka County Sheriff Deputy Kody Simpson responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on East Highway Three.
The suspect had already left the residence when Deputy Simpson had arrived. The victim advised the Deputy about what had occurred.
The victim stated they were in the swimming pool when the suspect, Charles Ray Thompson, 39, of Lane, arrived in a grey Minivan.
Thompson proceeded to grab one of their four children, putting them in the van. He began yelling at the other children to get into the vehicle. One other child complied while the other two went into the residence.
The victim verbally tried to stop Thompson from taking the children due to unhealthy circumstances of a previous visit.
They stood in front of the van when Thompson began driving away. The victim jumped onto the hood of the vehicle to avoid being run over.
Thompson drove approximately one quarter of a mile down the road. He stopped the van, and took a garden tool from the vehicle, attempting to hit the victim while they were still on the hood. Driving the victim off the hood with the garden tool he then drove away.
Thompson is charged with domestic assault and battery in presence of minor (felony).
