Atoka Police Officer Chase Franklin investigated a report of a suspect trying to purchase items with counterfeit money.
The male suspect attempted to purchase items at the Pilot Fuel with a fake $100.00. The suspect left the store when he was confronted by management.
Officer Franklin made contact with the suspect, identified as Frank E. Brown III, 31, near the Tractor Supply store.
Brown told the officer he had tried to purchase a pack of cigarettes and a Redbull Energy drink with some money he had received for cleaning a yard the day before.
Officer Franklin asked Brown if he knew the bill was fake. At first, Brown answered he did not know the $100 bill was counterfeit.
While the officer was speaking to the store manager, Brown asked to tell Franklin what really happened.
Brown stated he had found the bill in a hotel room and had a feeling it was fake, however, he needed money. When the employee told Brown it was fake he immediately left the store.
Brown was placed under arrest for second degree forgery. During a personal search a plastic baggy containing a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana was found. Brown was also charged with possession of marijuana. He was booked at the Atoka County Jail.
