Tuesday, August 18, 2020, Atoka County Sheriff Deputy Aubrey Stanfield received information in regards to a domestic assault that had occurred at a residence on Rodeo Drive.
Deputy Stanfield met with the victim who was observed to have multiple severe injuries and heavy bruising on the majority of their body.
Through speaking with the victim it was discovered that they had been struck multiple times with a livestock Lariat rope. The injuries to the victim’s face were caused by a closed fist.
The victim was unsure if any other weapons had been used because they had lost consciousness during the assault.
Deputy Stanfield was advised the assault began after an argument with the suspect, identified as Rowdey Rickey Ray Jones, 34, of Atoka. The victim told the Deputy it was a regular occurrence, but they had nowhere else to go.
The Deputy offered assistance to the victim, and asked them to complete a Voluntary Statement. The victim agreed to take the statement, but has not been completed at this time.
Deputy Stanfield attempted to make contact with Jones, but there was no response. Believing that Jones was inside the residence, the Deputy remained at the location for an extended amount of time.
Jones appeared in front of the residence asking the Deputy what was going on.
After explaining the situation, Jones replied that there had been no domestic incident at the residence, and that Deputy Stanfield could ask the victim.
Jones stated the injuries to the victim were due to them being involved in an altercation with an unknown individual.
He was placed under arrest for domestic assault and battery. Jones asked why he was being arrested for something he did not do. Deputy Stanfield advised Jones he would be provided a Voluntary Statement Form to describe what had happened, in his own words.
Jones denied the statement, stating he would not fill one out and he knew the victim would not either.
He is charged with domestic abuse – prior pattern of physical abuse (felony).
