On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, Atoka Police Officer Jedediah Griffith was assisting Officer James Riley with a traffic stop on a black 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.
The odor of marijuana was discovered during the traffic stop in the Budget Inn parking lot.
The passenger of the vehicle, Courtney Michelle Smith, 26, of Atoka, advised Officer Griffith she did not have anything illegal on her person.
Smith began to take items out of her purse. While she was removing items, Officer Griffith observed a green medical marijuana container inside the bag. Smith was instructed to open the container which held a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana.
Smith was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Atoka County Jail for booking.
