On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Atoka Police Sergeant Jimmy Taylor was dispatched to WalMart due to an individual pulling a gun on another person.
Sergeant Taylor arrived on scene and spoke to Jackie Harris. Harris advised the officer he had met John David Wilson, 75, of Atoka to make a payment on land he was buying.
Harris stated his wife, Frances Fortenberry, began arguing with Wilson.
According to Harris, he asked Wilson to meet with him on the weekend to discuss payments that had been made, however, Wilson said to settle in court.
The click of a gun was heard, and Harris and Fortenberry retreated to contact police.
Fortenberry stated Wilson told them, “you better have life insurance,” then pointed a gun at them.
Wilson advised the officer the two were paying rent money for a rental property, and Harris became unhappy about the balance after payment.
He told Harris, “If you don’t agree with it sue me.” Harris replied to the statement with a threat.
The victim had reportedly stated, “You don’t want to argue with me today… I just jerk you out of this truck and whoop your butt.”
Wilson told the officer he picked up his firearm to protect himself, but never pointed it at anyone.
No arrests were made as of press time. Sergeant Jimmy Taylor investigated.
