Monday, September 7, 2020, Atoka County Sheriff Deputy Kody Simpson observed a subject identified as Gregory Leflore, 32, of Atoka, riding a bicycle east on Third Street.
Deputy Simpson radioed dispatch for a local warrant check on Leflore, and an Atoka Police Officer advised that Leflore had a warrant through the City of Atoka.
Leflore was stopped at the corner of Second Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. While speaking with the Deputy, he began drinking an energy drink.
It was confirmed Leflore had an active warrant with the Atoka Police Department requesting his arrest.
Deputy Simpson advised Leflore he was under arrest and to place his hands behind his back.
He attempted to reason with the deputy not to arrest him, and was ordered to place his hands behind his back.
Leflore threw the drink can on the ground, and began to run away.
He ran south on Pennsylvania Avenue to an ally that led back to the east, and into a wooded area.
Once in the wooded area Deputy Simpson commanded the suspect to stop. Leflore yelled back, “No, I got (omitted) to do!”
Deputy Simpson lost sight of him as Leflore crossed the railroad tracks. He is charged with escape from arrest or detention (misdemeanor).
