Funeral services for Alba Jean (Powell) Jinkins, age 94 years, 7 months and 25 days, an Ada resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, in Coalgate, with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating.
Interment was in Coalgate Cemetery, at Coalgate.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Coalgate.
Jinkins passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020, in Ada.
She was born on January 5, 1926, to Noel and Eva (Karr) Powell, at Ash Flat, in Coal County.
Jinkins attended elementary school at Nixon, and attended Coalgate High School and graduated from Olney High School.
She married Paul Phillip Jinkins, in Ada, on October 24, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1999.
Jinkins worked for Western Union, McAlester Ammunition Depot and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone company after 37 1/2 years.
She was a member of the Independent Baptist Church and Eastern Star in Corpus Christi, Texas; lifetime member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and lifetime member of AT&T Pioneers. Jinkins was a strong supporter of the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Veteran’s First and the St. Labre Indian School. She spent her younger years helping the elderly and her church. Jinkins was a very giving person.
Survivors include her sister, Pauline Guinn of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, John L. Powell of Coalgate; brother-in-law, Allen Jinkins of Oklahoma City; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Noel and Eva (Karr) Powell; husband, Paul Jinkins; sisters, Mary Fullingin and husband, Leroy; and Mona Lay; brothers, Warren Powell and wife, Jimmie; Raymond Powell and wife, Loann; Floyd Powell; sister-in-law, Becky (Scott) Powell.
Pallbearers were David Battles, Don Battles, Jerry Battles, Dwayne Miles, Shane Sallee, Jimmy Lampkin and Richard Powell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
