Funeral services for Jerriel Dean Betts, age 84 years, one month and 20 days, an Atoka resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2020, at Wards Chapel Baptist Church, in Atoka, with Pastor Steve Henry and Pastor John Mixon officiating.
Interment was in Wards Chapel Cemetery, west of Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Atoka Funeral Home, in Atoka.
Betts passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2020, in Denison, Texas.
He was born on August 9, 1936, to Clyde William Wallace and Theresa Ray, at Atoka.
Betts serviced his country state wide in the National Guard for eight years.
He married Wanda Sue Betts, on February 17, 1966, at Durant.
Betts was a rancher and owned his ranch. If he thought the animal was odd or unique, he would have it on his ranch.
He was a avid horse lover and welder by trade. For eight years, Betts was county commissioner.
He was a member of the Wards Chapel Baptist Church, Atoka Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, INCA Board Member, and had a 51 year membership to the American Quarter Horse Association. Betts was a Shriner’s Advocate, helped establish Rural Water District #4, and a volunteer fire fighter for Wards Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Sue Betts of the home, in Atoka; sons, Jon Kevin Lemmond and wife, Kristy, of Bromide; Jay Dean Betts of Atoka; daughters, Glenda Sue Dever of Atoka; Amanda Kay Houser and husband, Justin, of Caddo; grandsons, Joshua Lemmond of Durant; Austin Lemmond of Decatur, Illinois; Ty Dever, Chance Dever and Jacob Betts, all of Atoka; Eric Lemmond of Caney; Nathan Houser of Caddo; one precious granddaughter, Tylar Houser of Durant; seven great-grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clyde William Wallace and Theresa Betts; brothers, Russell, James and Bud; sisters, Clyda Ray Betts, Melba Denny and Ann Druxman; nephew, Dan Druxman; niece, Sunny Kay Odom; stepson, Scott Lemmond.
Special pallbearer was Tylar Houser.
Pallbearers were Joshua Lemmond, Austin Lemmond, Ty Dever, Chance Dever, Jacob Betts, Nathan Houser and Mark Corn.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Betts, Glenn Carroll, Jim Hardman, Gene Stevens, Pete Thomas, David Ray, Eric Lemmond, Jake Dever, Johnny Self, Hughie Sewell and Cody Frost.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Atoka Funeral Home Chapel, in Atoka.
