uneral services for Rickie Joy (Thompson) Thompson, age 71 years, 11 months and 10 days, a lifelong Stringtown resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Stringtown Baptist Church, in Stringtown, with Brother Joey Lansdale officiating.
Interment was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, at Stringtown.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Thompson passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at her home, in Stringtown, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on Wednesday, October 27, 1948, to Leslie Marison and Imogene Elizabeth (Smith) Thompson, in Atoka.
Thompson attended school at Limestone Gap and graduated from Stringtown High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, her Vocational Home Economics Degree from East Texas Christian University, and her Master’s Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond.
She married Loyd Wayne Thompson on Saturday, June 18, 1966, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Stringtown.
Thompson began her teaching career at Stringtown Public School as the Home Economics Teacher. She was hired as the Adult Program Coordinator when the Career Tech first opened in Atoka. Thompson was later appointed as the Director for the Atoka Kiamichi Career Tech, where she retired with 23 years of service.
She was a member of the Stringtown First Baptist Church. Thompson enjoyed singing with the Singing Church Women of Oklahoma, she served as a member on the Atoka County Hospital Board, served many years as the Choir Director and Children’s Choir Director at Stringtown First Baptist Church, and was involved in many church activities. She served in many capacities as she and Loyd ministered in churches throughout the community.
Survivors include her husband, Loyd Wayne Thompson of the home, in Stringtown; daughters, Ronny Joy (Thompson) Potts and husband, Tony, of Stringtown; Brigitt LeAnn (Thompson) Bedwell and husband, Glenn, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Tate Bedwell and wife, Brooke, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Alex Barrett and husband, Dillon, of Stringtown; Spencer Loyd Bedwell and wife, Alexandra, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Cooie Potts and wife, Taylor, of Stringtown; Tucker James Bedwell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Brody Aaron Bedwell, Ellie Joy Barrett, Chase Thompson Bedwell, Bosie Warren Barrett, Beckett Gaines Bedwell, Easton Ryan Bedwell and Crockett Warren Potts; sisters, Doris Duckworth and husband, Billy, of Grand Saline, Texas; Paula Daniel and husband, Joe, of Atoka; aunts, Synthia Thompson Bowen of Atoka and Georgia Smith Lawrence of Coalgate; along with nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many dear and loved friends..
Preceding her in death were her parents, Leslie Marison and Imogene Elizabeth (Smith) Thompson; and a brother, Gary Ray Thompson.
Pallbearers were Tate Bedwell, Spencer Bedwell, Jeff Thompson, Tucker Bedwell, Cooie Potts and Dillon Barrett.
Honorary pallbearers were cousins, friends, members of Singing Church Women of Oklahoma, church choir members, and the many former church families she and Loyd served.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, October 9, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
