Graveside services for Retha Leona (Basham) Evans, 78 years of age, an Atoka resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020, at Green Meadows Cemetery, in Atoka, with Bill Sluther, Brandon Bates and Jerry Stevens officiating.
Interment was in Green Meadows Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Evans passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at Oklahoma City.
She was born on Thursday, November 20, 1941, to James Basham and Mattie Lee (Lansdale) Basham, at Redden.
Evans attended Stringtown Public School.
She married Arthur “Sonny” Evans on Wednesday, March 13, 1957, at Sherman, Texas and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before Sonny’s passing in April of 2019.
Evans was a homemaker.
She was a member of Coalgate Missionary Baptist Church. Evans loved quilting, taking care of her dogs and working in the yard. She enjoyed anything outdoors, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Lewis and husband, Kenneth, of Tulsa; Walter Evans and wife, Angie, of Lane; Carolyn Riley and husband, Ronnie, of Shady Point; Phyllis Bates and husband, Vern, of Atoka; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim Basham, Allen Basham, Susie Beasley, Wanda Smith, Shelia Baillie and Donny Basham; brother-in-law, Winfred Evans and wife, Delinda; sisters-in-law, Geraldean Helen Layton and Joyce Layton; special niece, Jenny Rose; along with nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Mattie Lee (Lansdale) Basham; husband, Arthur “Sonny” Evans; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Christian and Sonny Beasley; brother, Virgal Basham; sister-in-law, Ronda Basham.
Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
