Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Cooksey passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, in Sherman, Texas.
He was born on Monday, February 19, 1951, to Ernest William and Delora Mae (Stamps) Cooksey, in Ada.
His family moved to Washington and then to California when he was two. Cooksey lived in Bakersfield, California until he was 28 years old.
Cooksey graduated from West High School and attended Bakersfield College.
He married Frances May (Ellison) on Friday, June 18, 1971, at Bakersfield, California.
Cooksey had many jobs in his lifetime. From working at Sears & Roebuck, having his own furniture refinishing shop, managing a Harold’s Broasted Chicken in Atoka, working for the Atoka County Times as a news editor and while semi-retired, he worked for Mike Daniel at Taco Mayo and Mazzios Pizza until his health became an issue. He also ran the Cooksey Ranch for several years and had names for all the cattle.
Every day he would get up and thank the Lord for allowing him to live another day. Cooksey enjoyed reading, playing guitar, playing games on his computer, and creating many projects out of wood. He loved making up new recipes and trying them out on family and friends, better known as “Lab Rats”. Cooksey was a wonderful storyteller and knew a little bit about everything it seemed. If anyone had a question about something, they would say “ask Todd, he’ll know!” He loved to help young people just getting started in life and gave advice when asked. Cooksey said that the young people kept him young at heart.
