Funeral services for Eugean Dearl Shields, age 64 years, 1 month and 21 days, lived in Dallas, Texas several years and Atoka for most of his life, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, in Atoka, with Brother Willard Harrison officiating.
Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery, in Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Shields passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Ada.
He was born on Tuesday, October 23, 1956, to Floyd John and Alberta Helen (Robinson) Shields, at Atoka.
Shields attended Dunbar School through the 6th grade and graduated from Atoka High School, where he played basketball, ran track, played football, baseball and boxed with the Golden Gloves Boxing Team.
He married Vicky Ruth (Bird), in 1982 at Dallas, Texas. She proceeded him in death in 1983.
Shields proudly served his country in The National Guard during Desert Storm. He served in the Philippines, Egypt and Afghanistan.
He worked for the City of Atoka in the water department and then went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where he retired.
Shields was of the Methodist faith, but attended God’s House for several years. He was involved in the Green Hill Cemetery Association, active in all community affairs, always ready and willing to help anyone in need. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation for years and was a Golden Glove boxer, taught and coached boxing to many area youth. Shields loved to BBQ, travel, and living the life. He always enjoyed his family and cooking for them, playing dominoes and cards.
Survivors include the mothers of his children, Marnetta Robinson of Atoka and Heidrun Woodall of Gerty; children, Demetrius Crawford and wife, Amanda, of Dallas, Texas; Kenny Crawford and Angela Crawford, both of Atoka; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild coming in March; siblings, Vernola Daniels of Oklahoma City; Shirley Arnold of Atoka; Faye Burdex and husband, Aaron, of Atoka; Stevie Crawford and Janice McGee, both of Atoka; Sherry Brown of Oklahoma City; Lucky Shields and Vanoy Shields, both of Atoka; Kim Washington and husband, Crandell, of Stringtown; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd John and Alberta Helen (Robinson) Shields; wife, Vicky Crawford; grandson, Josiah Crawford; infant son; siblings, Clifford Madden, Ruby Batts, Floyd Shields, Gloria Doris and Jimmy Leroy.
Pallbearers were Kenny Crawford, Demetrius Crawford, Cameron Crawford, Derrick Washington, Garrick Carpenter, Chris Crawford, Tyler Brown and Mickey Granger.
Honorary pallbearers were Lane Hatter, Mike Hill, Orlon Hill, Crandell Washington, Keith Coleman and Lewis McGee
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December, 18, 2020, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka
