Funeral services for Charlotte Jeanette (Smith) Turrentine, age 87 years, 7 months and 26 days, a longtime Atoka resident for the past 41 years, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Atoka First Baptist Church, in Atoka, with the Reverend John Mixon, the Reverend Joe Chapin and the Reverend Bill Bray officiating.
Interment was in Green Meadows Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Turrentine passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Durant.
She was born on Friday, May 12, 1933, to David Singleton and Ora Lou (Blodgett) Smith at Burkburnett, Texas.
Turrentine attended and graduated from Burkburnett High School.
She married Kenneth Turrentine on Saturday, February 11, 1956, at Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death, in November 2012. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing.
Turrentine lived in many areas of the United States and overseas while her husband served in the military.
She was a housewife and homemaker and also worked a number of years in the family accounting office.
Turrentine was a longtime member and a Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church of Atoka. She was active with God’s Golden Jubilee in the church. Turrentine enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, was a “BIG” Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fan.
Survivors include her sons, Tony Turrentine of Denver, Colorado; Ray Turrentine of Atoka; Steve Turrentine and wife, Carlee, of Atoka; grandchildren, Eli Turrentine and Emmalee Turrentine, both of Atoka; brother-in-law, James Turrentine and wife, Regina, of Ardmore; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, David Singleton and Ora Lou Smith; husband, Ken Turrentine; siblings, Zella Shaw, Opal Carey, Alberta Belger, Lloyd Smith, Ruth Pontbriand and John Wayne Smith.
Pallbearers were Wayne Mixon, Ronnie Butler, Keith Cochran, Eli Turrentine, John David Turrentine and Josh Cochran.
Honorary pallbearers were her nephews, Jamie Turrentine, Brian Turrentine, Barry Smith, Kenny Smith, Jerry Pontbriand, Lynn Shaw and Ronnie Shaw.
The family received visitors from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
