Funeral services for Harold Dean Cooksey, Sr., age 90, a longtime Atoka resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, in Atoka, with Brother Dennis Powell and Brother William Henderson officiating.
Interment was in Bethany Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Cooksey passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Durant.
He was born on Saturday, December 20, 1930, to Charles and Elizabeth (Henderson) Cooksey.
Cooksey attended West Alison School, in Atoka County.
He married Jewel L. Drain, on June 18, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Cooksey proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
He worked for Container Corporation of America as a heavy machine operator. Cooksey also worked for Atoka County District 2 for several years along with being a farmer, rancher and high liner.
Cooksey was a lifelong member of the Church of the First Born. He loved raising his garden, trading junk and anything of value, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his sons, J.R. Cooksey and Susie Valle, of Atoka; Carroll Gene Cooksey of Henrietta; Charles Cooksey and wife, Karen, of Atoka; brother, Paul Gene “Huggie” Cooksey of Muskogee; grandchildren, Dean Cooksey and wife, Lisa, of Atoka; Misti Cooksey and Robby, of McAlester; Chelsey Rhodes and husband, Chuck, of Texas; Jordan Posey and husband, Dillon, of Atoka; Waede Ames of Atoka; Chadd Cooksey and wife, Courtney, of Atoka; and Adam Cooksey of Atoka; great-grandchildren, Weston Cooksey and wife, Kimberly, of Atoka; Falon Cooksey of Atoka; Shelbi Cooksey of Coalgate; Brianna Cooksey, Mackinzie Cooksey, Micah Cooksey, Dakota Cooksey, Thomas Cooksey, Jacob Cooksey, Kelsie LeAnn Cooksey, Naomi Brown, Sarah Brown, Malachi Brown, Levi Brown of Henryetta; Elizabeth Cooksey of Kansas; great-great-grandchildren, Braelynn Grace Cooksey and Brixton Lane Cooksey, both of Atoka; dear friends, Karen and Leo Caves; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Henderson) Cooksey; brothers, Alvin Cooksey, Edward Cooksey, Raymond Cooksey, Clarence Cooksey and Bud Sanders; grandson, Gene Cooksey; granddaughters, LeAnn (Cooksey) Brown and Christy Elizabeth Ames; and great-grandson, Kaleb Lane Cooksey.
Pallbearers were Dean Cooksey, Weston Cooksey, JR Cooksey, Falon Cooksey, Adam Cooksey and Robby Mosley.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
