Memorial services for John Calvin West, age 83, will be held at a later time, when it is safe for gathering.
West passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
He was born on August 4, 1937, to Bert and Bertha West, west of Crawford County, Missouri, where he was raised.
As a young man, he enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After leaving the service, West followed his heart and became a cowboy, working on several ranches and feedlots, including John Wayne’s.
He cherished God, his family and friends. West will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include his adoring wife of 45 years, Lena Clydene West of Belen, New Mexico; beloved daughters, Lori Hampton of Amherst, Texas; Kathy Davis of St. James, Minnesota; Sherri Coombs of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Julia Free of Garth, Texas; son, John West of Atoka; brother, Ronald West of Missouri; sisters, Lavelle, Jean and June of Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bert and Bertha West; four brothers; one sister; one son, Stephen Hamilton West and grandson, JC West.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Honor Flight Network and the FFA.
