Memorial services for Lottie Ann Brown, age 97 years, an Atoka resident, will be held at a later time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Brown passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in Durant.
She was born on March 6, 1923, to Lillie (Maxey) and Robert Bruce Shores.
Brown later moved to Atoka County with her family. She attended school through the tenth grade in Atoka, she quit school at age 15 and worked as a dishwasher and waitress to help support her family. After moving to Dallas, Texas with her sister, Etta, Brown graduated from Beauty College, in 1944.
She met Glen Nealeigh and they married January 16, 1946. They moved to Abilene, Texas, in 1950 and owned and operated two beauty salons and one of the top rated beauty schools in Texas. Brown was most proud of her work as the Style Director for the Texas Hairdressers and Cosmetologist’s Association. Texas teams under her direction were quite accomplished and won many awards. The word “style” might be the best one to describe her personality. She lived a rich and vibrant life full of style in her appearance, her beautiful home and gardens.
Brown retired with her husband in 1976 and moved to South Fork, Colorado, remaining there after her husband died in 1978.
She was a longtime member of the Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church, in Abilene, Texas and later the Episcopal Church in South Fork, Colorado, where she served in many capacities.Brown married Bo Bocock in 1985 and lived in Denver, Colorado for a short time. He preceded her in 1992 and she remarried in 1995 to Robert Earl Brown of South Fork, Colorado. Mr. Brown was a Shriner and they enjoyed outings and trips with the group and loved to entertain them in their home.
She very much loved her family and friends and hosted many gatherings in her home in Colorado.
Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Gonzales and husband, Auggie; grandchildren, Kelli Garcia, Timothy McGee and Brendan McGee; nephews, Bruce Usher, Craig Shores and Bruce Shores; nieces, Hazel Lane, Wanda Langley, Marjorie Dixon and Loretta Pavell; many great-grandchildren; great nieces; great nephews; and her great friend, Ronnie Faulkenberry.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lillie (Maxey) and Robert Bruce Shores; siblings, Billie VanZandt, Etta Griswold, Lou Ella Usher, Forrest Shores, Robert Shores and Eugene Shores; son, Michael Nealeigh; husbands, Glen Nealeigh, Bo Bocock, Robert Earl Brown.
