A special celebration of life is pending at this time for Shirley Jean (Gregg) Brotherton, age 85, an Atoka resident.
She will be placed to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Ada.
Brotherton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
She was born on May 31, 1935, to Ernest and Weda Gregg, at Ada.
Brotherton was a public school secretary for many years and helped organize the Pep Club, worked with Bob and Helen Cates at their gift shop and later worked at Walmart. She volunteered her time as a Pink Lady with the Atoka County Medical Center as well as volunteering with the City Election Board. Brotherton enjoyed being around the children at school and was appreciative of them remembering and talking with her in the local Walmart or grocery store. She loved this community and would always help people any way she could and did this out of the kindness of her heart.
She married Ray Brotherton, in August of 1955, in Ada. They had three children.
She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. One of her favorite scriptures was Numbers 6:24-26. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed drawing and painting, and a champion of the talents of those around her. She was “Gammy” to her grandchildren and great-grandchild. They cherished her visits; a family visit to Banff, hikes in Arkansas, a beautiful wedding in Florida. A loving Mother who laid a great foundation of grace and love who encouraged us to stay strong, work hard and enjoy the simple things in life.
She loved her family with all her heart and will be greatly missed by all of us.
Survivors include her children Tim and Lori, grandchildren Eric, Kyle, Kayli, Tala, Matthew, Kolton, Jani and one great-grandchild Memphis.
Preceding her in death were her husband Ray in 1991 and her son Greg in 2020.
She had many pets since her childhood and didn’t like to see any animal go hungry or without a home. In lieu of flowers the family requests to consider a donation be made to Ardmore Animal Care (580-223-7070) https://ardmoreanimalshelter.org.
