Funeral services for Shirley May (Powell) Ridgway, age 85 years, 4 months and 17 days, a lifetime resident of Atoka, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Atoka Funeral Home Chapel, in Atoka, with Chris McDaniel officiating.
Interment was in Green Meadows Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Atoka Funeral Home, in Atoka.
Ridgway passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020, in Atoka.
She was born on August 11, 1935, to Samuel Corwin and Elsie May (Sexton) Powell, in Clarita.
Ridgway graduated from Atoka High School, in 1954.
She married Clifford Lee Ridgway, Sr. on June 6, 1953. They had three sons, Clifford, Jr., Bruce and Gregory.
Ridgway was raised in the First Christian Church of Atoka, later joining Voca Baptist Church, in Caney. Her membership is now at Southside Baptist Church, in Atoka.
She and her husband were business owners for many years in Atoka.
They purchased the Dairy Dream in the early 1970’s from Harvey and Marie Capps and successfully operated the restaurant for many years. It was the “happening” place to be in town, along with their pool hall and video store next door.
Later, the restaurant was named Catfish Bayou.
Ridgway was a bookkeeper for years prior to being a restaurant owner as well as a volunteer at the Atoka Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed gardening, decorating and crafts and loved all kinds of flowers and was an avid bird watcher. Ridgway loved her family with all of her heart.
Survivors include her sons, Clifford Lee Ridgway, Jr. and wife, Lanie of Lane; Bruce Edward Ridgway and wife, Brenda, of Caney; Gregory Lynn Ridgway and wife, Pamela, of Harmony; grandchildren, Jimmy Ridgway and wife, Lisa, of Harmony; Brian Ridgway and wife, Stormie, of Atoka; David Westdyke of Lane; Mindy Ridgway and husband, Jimmie Holstine, of Lane; Brina Dutton and husband, Ronnie, of Sherman, Texas; Coby Ridgway and wife, Ginger, of Caney; Misty Luper and husband, Joel, of Denison, Texas; Chad Ridgway and wife, Susanna, of Oil Center; Kecia Hancock and husband, Billy, of Comanche; Corwin Ridgway of Centerpoint; great-grandchildren, Matthew; Zack; Hannah; Joey; Michelle; Lucas; Becca; Dalton; Lathan; Kelton; Leland; Carter; Owen; Keegan; Lily; Rylan; Jaida; Maddison; Tayden; Jolene; Leigh; Paige; Rylee; Rylan and Raynan; and her sister, Helen Payne of Midwest City.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Clifford Lee Ridgway, Sr., who passed on April 18, 1996; parents, Samuel Corwin and Elsie May (Sexton) Powell; and her brothers, Warren Powell and S. C. Powell.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Atoka Funeral Home, in Atoka.
