Funeral services for Thelma Lee (McIninch) Howard, age 91, a longtime Atoka resident, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, in Atoka, with Brother Jay Willoughby and Brother Don Day officiating.
Interment was in Green Meadows Cemetery, at Atoka.
Services were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Howard passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Atoka.
She was born on Wednesday, September 4, 1929, to Eldon B. and Leola (Williford) McIninch, at Atoka.
Howard attended Atoka Mamie Johnson and graduated from Atoka High School. She also attended business school, in Shawnee.
She married Floyd Gene Howard on Saturday, June 5, 1954, at Durant. They celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage, before Floyd’s passing in 2018.
Howard worked at the movie theater, in Atoka, as a teenager. Later on she worked for Judge Fischel in the courthouse. She also was a bookkeeper for Albert Furr Motor Company from 1953-1982. In 1984, she started doing bookkeeping for her son’s body shop.
She was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. Howard was an artist that loved painting, embroidering and sewing. She also loved her cats, but her favorite thing to do was spoil her son, Ronnie and grandson, Derek.
Survivors include her son, Ronnie Howard and wife, Shirlene, of Atoka; grandson, Derek Howard of Atoka; nephew, Richard Kent and Pam, of Fort Worth, Texas; niece, Billie Marie Dake of Fort Worth, Texas; great nephews, Caleb Kent of Fort Worth, Texas; Kevin Dake and wife, Krystal, of Fort Worth, Texas; great niece, Meredith Bolton and husband, David, of Fort Worth, Texas; bonus granddaughter, Shanda Albertson of Moore; and cousin, Louis Williford of Florida; along with many dear and loved friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Eldon B. and Leola (Williford) McIninch; husband, Floyd Gene Howard; sister, Christene Kent and nephew, Bruce Dake.
Pallbearers were Darrell Cochran, Mike Daniel, Brad Carey, Darwin Beck, Frankie Hunt and Wes Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Harper, the ladies in her Sunday School Class, and all the special ladies that helped care for her.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
