Friday, December 4, 2020, the Stringtown Police Department, Fire Department, Atoka County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Savannah Assistant Police Chief Matt Hines, Former Stringtown Assistant Chief and OHP Trooper Nathan Mullins, friends, and family celebrated Chief Richard L. Leuty’s 35 years of service to his community.
Chief Leuty began his career as a Law Enforcement Officer at Atoka Police Department in 1975 and served six years on Street Patrol as well as Atoka Lake Patrol.
He left the Atoka Police Department in 1981, and went to work for Ethan Allen until 1985.
In 1985, Leuty became employed with the Stringtown Police Department as a Patrol Officer under Chief Ron Marley, and served as an officer for 12 years.
Chief Leuty then transferred to the Stringtown Water Department/Streets and Alleys for the next 13 years before returning to the Stringtown Police Department as Interim Chief 2010.
He was promoted to Stringtown Chief of Police Badge #203, and has remained the Chief of Police for the past 10 years.
In total Chief Richard Leuty has served the City of Stringtown for 35 years, and as a Law Enforcement Officer for a total of 28 years.
Chief Leuty has been married to wife, Marilyn, for nearly 40 years, and plans to spend time with his son, Carley and wife, Michelle, restoring vehicles, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids.
Along with good food, cake, and company at the retirement party, Chief Leuty recieved a custom built M4 pistol 5.56 built by Eufaula Tactical in Checotah.
The dust cover has the Thin Blue Line flag. When the cover is opened it displays “SPD 203.” The pistol also sports a gold inlay that reads, “Thank you for 35 years of service” on the side of the magazine feed.
