Charged With Kidnapping After Gunfight

On Friday, December 4, 2020, Atoka County Sheriff Deputy Kevin Anderson and Deputy Austin Golden received a call in regards to a vehicle driving in front of a house located on West Boggy Depot Road firing rounds from a firearm.
Arriving in the area, Deputy Anderson and Golden located the vehicle, a black 2009 Hyundai Electra, west of the home traveling eastbound back toward the house.
When the driver saw the Deputy’s vehicle approaching it made an illegal U-turn and headed back west.
Deputy Anderson activated his emergency lights and siren in attempt to perform a traffic stop, but the vehicle began to speed up.
Atoka County Sheriff Deputy Trevor Dean arrived on scene to assist with the chase.
The pursuit reached speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour on narrow unpaved county roads before the driver crashed, and stalled out on Butterfield Crossing Road.
Deputy Golden and Deputy Anderson exited the patrol unit to approach the vehicle, and the driver sped away again.
The Deputies began pursuing the vehicle again at speeds of up to 85 miles per hour before the driver lost control and crashed for a second time on Hopewell Road.
Deputy Golden and Deputy Anderson approached the vehicle, seeing there was a passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Joshua Ray Devin.
The driver, identified as Shane Logan Adams, 23, of Coalgate, was placed under arrest and while in handcuffs on the ground he stated to Devin, “I told you to shoot at them so they would kill us.”
Upon the search of the vehicle, there was a loaded .22 rifle with a spent shell in the chamber. There were spent .22 shell casings and a marijuana pipe inside the vehicle.
Adams was flown to Medial City of Plano, Texas from the scene of the accident due to injuries he sustained in the wreck.
After the scene was cleared, Deputy Trevor Dean went back to the residence on West Boggy Depot Road and made contact with Justin and Crystal Ledford.
The Ledfords advised Deputy Dean of what had happened before Deputies arrived.
Adams has harassed the Ledfords and Savannah Stewart, calling more than 43 times per day. Justin Ledford had his phone number changed due to the frequency of the calls.
“Adams has called, repeatedly, threatened to kill me, my husband, and my child. He has threatened to drive through our house, burn our house down, drive in our yard and hit our vehicles.” Crystal Ledford said.
On Friday, December 4th, Justin Ledford was out by his shop when he noticed a car sitting at the four-way intersection.
Turning on the headlights to his vehicle, Ledford identified Adams in the vehicle parked at the intersection.
“He peeled out and took off uphill. Adams was continuously driving past, revving his engine. Then he started yelling, saying he was going to ‘shoot me.’ He started firing off rounds, and I ran inside to grab my gun to protect my family.” Ledford said.
“I went outside and began firing back in self defense. Adams was out of the vehicle at this time, and was shooting from the pasture next to the house.”
When Ledford began to shoot back at Adams, he ran back to the vehicle, and drove away. Ledford said he noticed there was another person in the vehicle.
There was a minor child inside of the residence at the time of the shooting.
On Saturday, November 21, 2020, Adams was seen driving past the home, and doing doughnuts at the four way intersection near the home. He began threatening the Ledfords and the family. Adams drove into the yard and struck a vehicle belonging to Nicholas Gibson, of Durant.
Adams was charged with malicious injury to property – over $1,000 (felony) for the incident.
During that time, there was a Protective Order filed against Adams from Savanna Stewart, but the documents had not been served.
Stewart’s place of employment has blocked Adams from contacting her while at work, and began providing security to offer protection while at work.
The following day, Saturday, December 5, 2020, Deputy Dean spoke with the passenger of the car, Joshua Ray Devin.
Devin stated, during the interview, Adams had held him against his will, and would not let him exit the vehicle during the pursuit.
Devin explained he was needing a ride to Caddo when Adams claimed he was heading that way to look for a missing car.
Adams drove around for a while until he approached the intersection near the Ledford home, and began yelling.
Devin said he had never seen or heard of the people involved, and when Adams began firing at the home he ducked down in the floor board to hide.
When Adams sped away, Devin asked the suspect to drop him off at the next town. Instead of letting him out, Adams turned around to drive back towards the home.
At this point, Deputy Anderson had located Adams and the pursuit began.
Devin stated he asked Adams several times to let him out of the vehicle. While trying to locate his phone, he moved the .22 rifle out of Adams reach.
“I was scared for my life or the Officers’ lives. Then we wrecked and the officers told us to get out. Shane wouldn’t let me out,” Devin said.
During the first accident at Butterfield Crossing Road, he had attempted to open the passenger door of the vehicle, but Adams pulled his arm preventing him from exiting the vehicle.
Adams is charged with kidnapping (felony), use of vehicle in discharge of weapon (felony), felony discharging firearm into dwelling (felony), possess firearm during commission of a felony (felony), and endangering others while attempting to elude police officer (felony).
