Funeral services for Irma Lou (Mitchell) Rains, age 76, a longtime Atoka resident, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Bentley Baptist Church, in Bentley, with Brother Jim Lewis and Brother Jeff Culbreath officiating.
Interment will be in Bentley Cemetery, at Bentley.
Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
Rains passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Burleson, Texas, after losing her battle to cancer.
She was born on Monday, October 23, 1944, to Millard H. and Mamie E. (Richardson) Mitchell, at Stringtown.
Rains worked for 26 years at Underwood and Thomas Insurance Agency. After leaving the insurance company, she went to work for McGee Creek Rock and Stone, where she worked for 10 years until her retirement in 2019.
She married the father of her two children, Gary Rains, on April 24, 1964.
Rains was a member of Bentley Baptist Church.
She loved her family more than anything in the world. Her two children were her pride and joy, but couldn’t measure up to the two great loves of her life, her grandchildren. She enjoyed being with them and watching them grow into young adults and achieve all their goals. Rains also loved spending time with her siblings. The other great loves of her life were her nieces and nephews. She was either Grandma or Aunt Irm to all kids and adults.
Survivors include her daughter, Amy Huffman and husband, John, of Grandview, Texas; son, Mark Rains of Lane; grandchildren, Emily Rains and Cole Walker, of Atoka; Elijah Huffman Golden of Grandview, Texas; sisters, Margaret Hogan of Bentley; Helen Shields of Kiowa; Rena “Pete” Workman and husband, Jimmy, of Caney; brother, Glen Mitchell of Stringtown; father of her children, Gary Rains of Bentley; special sisters-in-law, Wilma Sorrells of Bentley; Shirley Mobbs and husband, Roy, of Bentley; special friends, Marsha Lankford, Larry Keeler, Larry Payne, Leonard Caves and Alfred Elliott; along with nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Millard Harrison Mitchell and Mamie Elizabeth Mitchell; sisters, Sally White, Janese Edge and Dorothy Carpenter; brothers, Richard Mitchell and Jack McDaniel; brothers-in-law, K. F. White, Jr., Jackie Hogan and Frances Shields; special friends, GL “Preacher” Lawson and Imojean Smith; very dear nieces, Kelley Renae (Edge) Stotler and Tania Marie Sorrells-Cord; plus many other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Elijah Golden, Blake Howard, Seth Shields, Ryan Rains, Jason Courtney and Justin Kennedy.
Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Hogan, Benny Hogan, Russell Shields, Mike White, James Workman, Brent Sorrells, Randy Rains, Kerry Rains, Keith Rains, David Rains, Larry Rains, Toby Rains, Bobby Tomlinson, Tommy Tomlinson, Danny Tomlinson, Wes Mobbs, Chance Mobbs and Robert Powell, Jr.
Family night was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service, in Atoka.
