Graveside services for Joy (Armstrong) Blankenship, age 76 years, 9 months and 27 days, an Atoka resident, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Tushka Cemetery, in Tushka, with Pastor Jeremy Parham officiating.
Interment will be in Tushka Cemetery, at Tushka.
Services are under the direction of Atoka Funeral Home, in Atoka.
Blankenship passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Atoka.
She was born on June 13, 1944, to Isaac Jefferson and Mary Ellen (Walker) Armstrong, at Atoka.
Blankenship is fondly remembered for her gentle, determined spirit.
She valued being thrifty, but generous and quick to respond when others were in need.
Blankenship attended Atoka High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1962.
She took great pleasure in meeting monthly with dear friends and schoolmates to celebrate birthdays and special occasions.
Prior to having children, Blankenship worked as a telephone operator, in Dallas, Texas, where she met another valued friend.
Blankenship served her community at the Atoka County Election Board for 29 years and most recently with the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.
Having lived in Atoka most of her life, she established and maintained a host of greatly loved friends, as they parented children of similar ages together.
She developed a deep affinity for her constant companions, Toie and Jasper, from whom she drew great comfort.
Blankenship’s most treasured role was being a mother to Tonya and Gary. She was exceedingly proud of their character, academic and career successes.
Survivors include her son, Gary Don Blankenship and wife, Cathy, of Edmond; daughter, Tonya Kay Blankenship of Atoka; grandchildren, Adam Chase Casey of Tucson, Arizona; Sabrina Anne Casey of Santa Barbara, California; Alex Curtis Jones and wife, Alexandra, of Oklahoma City; Abigail Faith Flores and husband, Larry, of Edmond; great-granddaughter, Adeline Grace Jones of Oklahoma City; beloved pet, Jasper of the home, in Atoka; also many dearly loved friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Isaac Jefferson and Mary Ellen (Walker) Armstrong; infant brother, Paul Armstrong; and her beloved pet, Toie.
Pallbearers are Gerald Eaves, Ronnie Cochran and John Burks.
Honorary pallbearers are her beloved cousins; the Class of 1962; the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary; Melissa Diaz and the Atoka County Election Board.
Blankenship is greatly loved and sorely missed by her family and many adored friends.
