Funeral services for Wanda “Snowball” Thomas Rice, age 74, a Oneonta, Alabama resident, formerly of Atoka, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at High Rock First Methodist Congregational Church, in Hayden, Alabama, with Brother Randy Hale and Brother Joel Johnson officiating.
Rice passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama.
She was born on November 28, 1946, to Katie Luvoy Howard and Ralph Lee Thomas, at Bentley. Rice was the fourth of six children.
Rice graduated from Tushka High School. She was a member of multiple State Championship teams while at Tushka, two in basketball and two in volleyball. Rice was selected to the All-Star team and competed in Oklahoma City her senior year.
She was a member of High Rock First Methodist Congregational Church, in Hayden, Alabama. Rice enjoyed spending time with her family, her racing family, going to sporting events, cooking, being active in the church and keeping people in line.
Survivors include her husband, Harley Rice of Oneonta, Alabama; daughter, Tammy Rice Haneline of Corinth, Mississippi; sons, Charles Rice and wife, Dori, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Phillip Rice and wife, Kelli, of Pell City, Alabama; grandchildren, Trinity Rice, Hailey Haneline, Harley Haneline and Christian Rice; great-grandchildren, Serena Rice, Keaton Rice and Paisley Rice; sisters, Sue Thomas Webster of Bentley; Jean Thomas Mobbs of Durant and Shirley Thomas McGuire and husband, Darrell, of Bentley.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Katie Luvoy (Howard) and Ralph Lee Thomas; brother, Norman Thomas and a sister, Martha Thomas Peterson, both of Atoka.
Pallbearers were Scott Callaway, Alan Copeland, Jay Green, Jeff Sherrill, Jason Adcock, Chad Bryant and Alan Callaway.
Viewing was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Blount County Funeral Home, in Cleveland, Alabama.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the cemetery fund, 1414 High Rock Road, Hayden, Alabama 35079.
