Welfare Check Leads to Arrest, Struggle for Atoka Police

A welfare check on a man in a McDonald’s parking lot turned into a physical altercation with police, resulting in multiple charges including public intoxication and assault on an officer.

On Sunday evening, September 7th, Atoka Police Officer Cheyenne Gilbert responded to a call about a man lying in the grass near an electrical box. Upon arrival, Officer Gilbert located the man, identified as Anthony Williams, sitting against the box.

According to the police report, Officer Gilbert immediately noticed the odor of alcohol on Williams's breath. Williams admitted to drinking a 'tall boy' beer in the QuikTrip parking lot then walking across the street to the McDonald’s parking lot. The officer also noted that Williams had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes.
