(Editor’s note: The following article section is a reprint from the article in last week’s edition: Tempers Flare, Doors Slam at Atoka County Commissioners Meeting. Additional details were made available after press time. The fully updated article is available online at our website) The public comment section of the meeting is where tensions rose along with voices as a concerned resident in District Three approached the Board table. The resident, Cathy Cahill, was not only frustrated with the road grader's conduct but also with the fact that she hadn't received a return phone call from the commissioners. This fueled her discontent as she slapped a complaint down in front of Chairman Ethan Settlemire and launched into a scolding about the decorum of the grader operator on her road.
According to an email sent to Chairman Settlemire from Cahill, she had waited for the grader to come down the road. As he approached, he asked Cahill if he could clean out the fence area, and he was denied the request.
Cahill told the man she did not want him on her property as they had their own equipment to maintain the area. She then asked the operator to “slick-grade” the road, which was rebutted as the road needed gravel.
