Inmate Faces Felony Assault Charges After Attacks on Detention Officers

An inmate at the Atoka County Jail is facing two counts of felony Assault and Battery on Corrections Personnel following separate attacks on detention staff on consecutive days last month.

The first incident occurred on November 26th, when Detention Officers Corey Fowlkes and Riley Henry went to check on Nick Ryan Benski in the supervision cell. According to Officer Fowlkes, when the cell door was opened to offer Benski water, the inmate 'pushed out the supervision cell and attempted to put his arm around his neck.'

Fowlkes quickly grabbed the inmate's wrist and pushed Benski back and to the floor, where he was restrained with the assistance of a trustee. Video footage confirmed Benski grabbed Officer Fowlkes around the neck before being subdued.
