Man Booked on Felony Count After Headbutting Deputy During Arrest

A man is in custody facing multiple charges, including a felony count of assault on a police officer, following a confrontation at McGee Creek State Park on December 18, 2025.

The incident began when an Oklahoma State Park Ranger and an Atoka County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Potapo camping area regarding individuals who had allegedly been camping for several days without paying for a reservation. Upon arrival, officers encountered Tana Schmitz and Jamie Don Taylor at a campsite where they noted a strong odor of burnt marijuana.
