The holiday spirit was loud and clear this past Saturday morning as 23 local children were paired with law enforcement officers for the annual Shop with a Cop event.
The morning began at the community center on Liberty Road, where a convoy of patrol units from various agencies activated their lights and sirens for an exciting escort across town to the Atoka Walmart.
The program, which began in 2017, is coordinated by Jim Lyon with the help of his wife, Monica. Lyon shared that when the tradition started, he initially worried about whether officers would enjoy participating. However, the event has grown every year, with more officers volunteering to join in, often coming in on their scheduled days off to take part.
