Firefighters from across the region spent Sunday evening battling a large blaze on E. Whippoorwill Lane, located in the far southeastern corner of Atoka County. The response featured a massive show of teamwork from nearly a dozen agencies, including 8 volunteer fire departments, and the use of specialized technology to bring the fire under control.

The City of Atoka Emergency Management drone team played a critical role in the operation. Using thermal imaging from the air, the drone team was able to provide ground crews with a 'bird's-eye view' of the scene, allowing them to confirm that a complete fire break had been successfully estab- lished around the perimeter.

'The teamwork and cooperation shown by all agencies involved made a big difference,' Travis Mullins, Atoka City Emergency Management stated, expressing gratitude for the volunteers and personnel who responded to the call.
