The clock inside Stringtown’s gym seemed to tick louder with every second Saturday night (Feb. 21) as the Class BI No. 8 Lady Tigers clawed their way back from a poor first quarter against Class BI #12 Soper. When the final horn sounded, it was Stringtown 36, Soper 34 – and a regional championship belonged to the Lady Tigers. Stringtown is now one win away from the Class BI state tournament.
It didn’t come easy. Soper controlled the early tempo, jumping out to an 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers struggled to find rhythm offensively, but senior Josie Jones gave them a spark late in the period, slicing through the lane for a basket that kept the deficit manageable heading into the second.
By halftime, Stringtown had trimmed the gap to just one point, trailing 16-15. The message in the locker room was calm but confident.
