“Valentine Luncheon with Aunt Ina” Held in Historic Winters Home
As Aunt Ina was leaving the house, she laughingly said, “I wish I had a dollar for every time I went through that door!” Submitted photo

A special Valentine celebration was held February 12 in Stringtown for 95-year-old Ina (Winters) Suydam was honored with a “Valentine Luncheon with Aunt Ina” in the historic home built by her grandparents, Mark Renfro and Susie Belle Winters in 1912. The home was donated to the Stringtown Historical Foundation in 2022.

The event was inspired by an October visit Ina made during renovation of the downstairs portion of the home. During that visit, she shared a heartfelt wish: “My prayer is to have one more meal in this house.” On February 12, that prayer was answered.

Foundation volunteers prepared and served Ina’s favorite meal to 14 family members: fried chicken, pinto beans and cornbread, with turnip greens, cabbage, fried potatoes, coleslaw and fresh vegetables, and her favorite dessert - apricot fried pies.
