Roadside Struggle Leads to Felony Charges for Attempting to Take Deputy’s Firearm

A man is facing a string of felony charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, following a roadside confrontation that turned into a life-threatening struggle for a deputy’s firearm.

The incident began on the evening of February 24, 2026, when Atoka County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported fight on South Buffalo Creek Road.

Deputy Dillan Hembree intercepted the suspect vehicle; a dark SUV parked in the roadway and identified the driver as 50-year-old Ryan Tippets. According to the affidavit, Tippets exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. When asked how much he had to drink, Tippets reportedly told the deputy, 'It doesn't matter, it's hearsay.'
