Some of the Lane Spit and Whittle Club were wondering how Oklahoma’s oil production is faring these days, and the word is that it is considered good due to the significant role Oklahoma oil plays in the U.S. energy market.
The economy of Atoka County has been largely built on coal mining, limestone quarrying, forestry, and agriculture. Cattle raising became the leading business in the mid-twentieth century. Major employers here are the Mack H. Alford Correctional Center, a medium-security prison that opened in 1933, and the Howard McLeod Correctional Center Lane School will have a School Board Election on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026.
