Atoka City Business: Council Approves Contracts, Increase in Rates on the Horizon

The Atoka City Council met in a regular session today to address a range of highimpact contracts, from utility rate increases to the acquisition of a new industrial-scale playground and a significant upgrade to police technology.

Five-Year Waste Services Agreement Projects Rate Increase The Council voted to enter into a new five-year agreement with Republic Services (Allied Waste Systems, Inc.), effective July 1, 2026. This follows Republic’s decision not to exercise its two-year extension option under the previous contract due to surging equipment and labor costs.

The new contract includes a 5% annual increase for each of the five years. By the end of the term in 2031, the city's cost for waste services will have risen by 25% from current levels.
