State Veterans Organization Fete Area Citizens

Officers of the Department of Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and Auxiliary recognized Harmony Language Arts Teacher, Tresa Walker; Durant High School Senior, Lydia Bullard; and Atoka County Sheriff, Kody Simpson; Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the District 4, Veterans of Foreign Wars Annual Convention in Durant.

Department Adjutant and Quartermaster, Heidi Teeter, Auxiliary Vice President, Frank Matek, and State Senator David Bullard, spoke to the assembled officers of the district’s nine posts and auxiliaries. Necessary business was conducted, elections were also held for the coming year, but a special occurrence during the awards ceremony highlighted the event.

Lydia Bullard, winner of the district’s portion of the “Voice of Democracy” national speech scholarship competition, and state runner up, delivered a heartfelt and emotional recitation of her entry 'How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country'.
