Commissioners Tackle Tornado Recovery, Power Project

The Atoka County Board of Commissioners balanced a look back at a 'humbling' storm response with a look forward to a massive energy investment during Monday’s regular meeting.

A portion of the meeting was focused on the 21.5-mile tornado that swept through the county last Tuesday. Despite a damage track nearly 1,000 yards wide that impacted approximately 200 homes, officials were relieved to report zero major injuries within the county.

Commissioner Spike Eaves praised the roughly 150 volunteers and first responders who worked through the night. 'Everybody came together and everybody stayed together,' Eaves said, noting the 'very good sign' that neighbors were out in the mud with their own equipment to clear roadways.
